Moses replied, “When I have gone out of the city, I will spread out my hands in prayer to the Lord. The thunder will stop and there will be no more hail, so you may know that the earth is the Lord’s.
– Exodus 9:29 (NIV)
by Dave Whitehead, Senior Pastor, GraceNYC.org
God could have stopped the hail without Moses’ prayer, yet God determined to work through Moses to free the Israelites from the slavery of Egypt. The sovereign God uses prayer to accomplish His purposes and prayer invites us into the work of God. Prayer is not only a vehicle of change on the earth; prayer is a vehicle of change in the believer, for answered prayer reminds us that the earth is the LORD’s.
